GLASS VULNERABILITY DATA (GVD) AND HEXFRAG SOFTWARE

EAI has recently introduced two new items for use with the HEXDAM software. These two items consist of an expanded Glass Vulnerability Data (GVD) file and the HEXFRAG software.

First, HEXDAM in its current form contains a library of 104 types of structures. However, vulnerability data for only one type of glass is provided, corresponding to ordinary 4 mm (.157 in.) annealed glass. Because of the importance of using blast-resistance glass in modern building design, as well as in retrofits, EAI has recently developed a new library of GVD for a total of fifteen different types of glass for use with HEXDAM. The glass types are as follows:

The second item involves the HEXFRAG software developed by Engineering Analysis Inc. (EAI), which is designed to predict secondary fragmentation effects when used in conjunction with the Breeze HEXDAM 7.0 software. A working familiarity with HEXDAM is necessary in order to effectively utilize HEXFRAG. HEXFRAG uses the output files from a normal HEXDAM run to predict fragmentation produced by frangible structures and the injuries sustained by personnel as a result of such fragmentation. Both graphical and tabular results are generated. The characteristics of the software can be summarized as follows:
