PREDICTION OF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO

OFFSHORE OIL PLATFORMS DUE TO

VAPOR CLOUD EXPLOSIONS

 

Engineering Analysis Inc. (EAI) has significant experience in predicting structural damage to offshore oil platforms due to vapor cloud explosions.  In carrying out such analysis EAI utilizes VEXDAM, the most advanced software currently available for modeling vapor cloud explosions.  Recent projects dealing with offshore oil platform explosions include

 

o   2004 – Oil Platform Vapor Cloud Explosion – Carried out analyses of three separate vapor cloud explosion scenarios aboard the OKUME & Oveng offshore oil platforms using VEXDAM 7.0 software.

 

o   2005 – Gas Dispersion Model – Carried out two additional cases involving a vapor cloud explosion and gas dispersion aboard the OKUME & Oveng offshore oil platforms using VEXDAM 7.0 software.

 

o   2007 – Vulnerability Assessment of Structural Components of Converted Tanker – Calculated the blast resistance of four structural components aboard a 2.1 million barrel crude oil tanker (double hull) converted for use as a storage vessel using VASDIP software.

 

o   2007 – Analysis of Vapor Cloud Explosion Aboard Deep Panuke Development PFC – Carried out analysis of five vapor cloud explosion test cases aboard the Deep Panuke Development PFC using VEXDAM 7.0.

 

o   2010 – Analysis of Vapor Cloud Explosion Aboard Okume Offshore Oil Platform – Carried out analysis of five different vapor cloud explosion test cases aboard the Okume offshore oil platform using VEXDAM 7.0.
